  • Advice for First-Time Spa Owners

    iStock_000016932562_Small

Your first time owning a spa is very exciting! But there are some important things you need to know when managing a spa at your own home. What should you do once the spa arrives? How long will it take before it’s up and running? How often should I check the chemical levels? All of these are normal questions to have when you’ve never owned a spa before.

Below, we’ve compiled some tips so you can enjoy your time with your spa virtually worry-free. After all, wasn’t the idea for buying a spa so you could relax?

    Preparation

A big part of enjoying your spa is understanding how it works and how to properly maintain it. Begin by reading your manual. Your manual will be your personal guide and help you to prevent damages as you take care of your spa. As you read your manual, you will come across various steps that you need to take before you use your spa for the first time. You want to clean your spa with a gentle, mild cleaner in preparation for it to be filled with water.

Once your spa is filled, review your owner’s manual on your temperature controls. Your next step is to heat your spa! This can take anywhere from seven to 24 hours, however it all depends on size, temperature of the water you added and temperature of the air around you.

Balancing your water is another extremely important step to take before spending time in your spa. Be sure to check the chemical balances by using some of these testing strips to make sure your water is safe. These strips will tell you where your chemical imbalances are and your manual will help you fix these. After your water is ready to go, so are you!

Make sure to check your water with testing strips every few weeks. Chemical imbalances can randomly occur, and you always want to make sure that your spa water is safe.

    Safety First!

Safety should always come first, and in order for you to have a good time while using your spa, we want you to feel safe and know what precautions to take.

If you have children, always remain in the hot tub with them, or supervising them at all times. You should also consider purchasing a cover and cover lifter for your spa to eliminate access to the spa when it isn’t being supervised. Children should not be in the spa for more than 15 minutes at a time and the water should be kept at a lower temperature. Infants and toddlers should not be in the spa at all.

Be sure to stay hydrated when you use your spa, as the heat will make you feel dehydrated. So drink plenty of water. Keep water close by and cool with these Spas & Stuff Tervis Big-T Tumblers!

If you are looking to buy a spa for your home, there are many options available, so be sure to find the one that’s right for you and use these helpful tips to make spa ownership a breeze. Additionally, feel free to contact us anytime with concerns or questions about managing your first home spa.

  • Why Owning Your Own Hot Tub Is the BEST Thing Ever

    iStock_000023225298_Small

The ultimate goal of spending time in a hot tub is to relax and enjoy time either alone or with your friends and family. Owning your own spa allows you to do just that --- and so much more! Although having access to a public hot tub may be nice, having your own hot tub has benefits that far exceed packing up the family to go out for some time in the hot tub.

One of the greatest pros to having your own spa is convenience! Owning your own hot tub means you can use it when, and as much as, you’d like. Although your local pool or swim club may have a hot tub, many of these aren’t open year round, or they aren’t open early in the morning, or late at night – times when you might need a good soak in the hot tub the most. With the convenience of it being right outside your home, you can cut down a lot of time that you would be using to drive to your gym or pool club. That extra twenty, thirty, or even forty minutes can make a huge difference when it cuts into your sleep schedule, which takes us to our next benefit – getting more and better sleep!

Getting enough sleep can be tough enough as it is --- the last thing that you need is driving to take time away from getting rest. Not only will you cut out driving time to and from the hot tub, using your hot tub frequently can even help you sleep better. According to the National Sleep Foundation, a twenty minute session in your spa can help you get to sleep faster and deeper. So enjoy that time in your spa after a long day at work and then catch some extra zzz’s with the time you’re saving to feel well-rested and ready to tackle the next day!

Your spa is a great place for family and friends to convene and have a good time on the weekends. Set out some snacks on a nearby table with some water to keep you hydrated for your time in the spa and you’ll be ready to have a great time with people you love to hang out with! You can set up your spa with your own look. Choose from a variety of colors, and surround your spa with your favorite plants or tables… it’s all up to you! You can make your spa beautiful and functional in your outdoor living space, while using it all year.

Say goodbye to aches and pains! Hot tubs are known to help relieve chronic aches and pains. With your own spa, you can have neck cushions that you would not typically find in your spa at the local gym or pool club. Take advantage of having your own hot tub and adjust the pressure of the jets as well as the temperature to help really loosen your muscles and prevent continuous pain in your body.

Whether you’re using your spa quickly before you head to work or after a long workout, you can save those extra minutes of driving and enjoy a little bit more relaxation time – something everyone deserves. Take advantage of all the benefits hot tubs have to offer when it’s yours. Grab the towel and some music because serenity is right outside your back door!

  • Summer With Your Spa

    HiRes

Sweet summertime has finally arrived and pools are opening up, big time! However, don’t be so quick to close up that hot tub for a couple months. One big misconception that many have about their spa is that they can’t use it as much during the summer. By keeping your water and tub clean, and the temperature just right, your spa can actually be enjoyed in many ways all twelve months of the year!

It’s Squeaky Clean: To get your spa ready for summer you should begin by cleaning the filter of your tub. This filter cleaner can be used to remove any of the scum, oils, or gunk from the cartridge of the filter. Be sure to continue cleaning your cartridge throughout the summer and rest of the year, by soaking your cartridge in the cleaner and water solution for about 24 hours. After that, rinse your cartridge and it will be ready to use.

Test Away!: After cleaning your cartridge, be sure to use these testing strips to measure Chlorine, Bromine, Alkalinity, Total Hardness and pH levels. Measuring these levels will assure you that the chemicals in your water are safe for you to be exposed to and you can use your spa. If levels are uneven, be sure to contact a consultant at Spas and Stuff to help you add the proper amount of chemicals required.

Keepin’ it Cool: Warm summer temperatures call for a nice cool down, so turning your spa’s temperature down to 85 degrees or even turning the heater off, allows you to have a nice, relaxing time. For the cooler summer nights, your spa’s regular temperature may be just right. To make sure the temperature is just the way you’d like it, you can help monitor it in your spa with this floating thermometer. If you have a pool, feel free to use this for your pool as well. The floating feature prevents this tool from being pushed around or to the bottom by the jets of your spa.

Fit & Fun: Summer is a time where many like to get in shape and stay active. You may not consider your hot tub a place where you can exercise – but think again! With tight muscles, that warmer water will help to loosen you up and prep you for some minor exercises you can do in your spa. The jets of the spa will help your body to recover from workouts, by massaging the muscles and relieving you from tightness in your back and neck. In any temperature, you can stretch or do small leg exercises like calf raises to help strengthen those muscles. Small squats in your spa will also help to increase your temperature and weight loss.

With these helpful tips your spa will be ready to use for those laid-back summer days with family, staying active or fun nights with friends. Please contact your local Spas and Stuff with any questions.

  • How to Buy a Hot Tub: Asking the Vital Questions

You've made the decision to purchase a hot tub for your home, and it's an investment you'll undoubtedly enjoy for years to come! If you think the decision-making is done because you've opted to purchase a hot tub, think again. You still have a number of small, yet important, questions to answer before you install a new hot tub on your property (inside or out). Below is a rundown of the questions you should ask yourself as you contemplate your big purchase.

    Is This Safe for Me?

Hot tubs are a great way to entertain your friends and family, as well as enjoy supreme relaxation after a rough day or week at work. However, hot tubs should be used with particular attention and care. The average temperature of the water ranges from 100 F to 102 F, with a maximum recommended temperature of 104 F. While it is good for relaxation and relief of sore muscles or joints, those with heart conditions or other medical issues should consult a doctor before using a hot tub. Keep this in mind as you think of all the potential users of your new hot tub!

How are You Going to Use the Hot Tub?

Obviously you are going to be using the tub for entertainment and relaxation, but what level of usage do you expect? Are you investing in this hot tub for use on a daily basis, or infrequently as you see fit? Is this more for entertaining or do you intend to use it heavily for hydrotherapy purposes? You'll want to research the energy use of a tub you'll use on a daily basis, as well as the standby power use of a model you will use infrequently.

If you plan to simply entertain and add to the environment of your home with a hot tub, certain features (such as the number and type of jets) don't matter as much. However, a hydrotherapy tub should have lots of high-powered jets to cater to your needs.

Where are You Installing the Tub?

This is the biggest question you need to answer. Are you going to place your new hot tub indoors or outdoors? An outdoor hot tub needs to have good insulation so that it holds in the heat and saves you from constantly running the pumps and heaters to keep the water at the proper temperature. This is particularly important if you live in a cooler climate.

If you are placing the tub indoors, you need to give careful consideration to where you install. The room you choose must be well ventilated to avoid rot, mold, and mildew buildup. The physical space should be well supported (if located on an upper level), and the location and voltage of outlets is also worthy of consideration. It is also a good idea to measure doorways and entry points to ensure you can get to the tub to its desired location.

Buying a new hot tub for your home is like buying the home itself. You would never buy a home without stopping to consider whether or not it meets your needs. You should exercise the same caution and consideration when buying your next hot tub.

  • 4 Must-Have Spa Accessories

    iStock_000031996762_Small

When you purchase a new spa for your home, you don't necessarily get all the accessories you would want to supremely enjoy your investment. Sure, your new spa comes with heaters and pumps required to provide you with warm, relaxing water, but there are multiple accessories available for purchases that enhance the joy of spa ownership. The question is; which accessories are the must-have extras that you should purchase?

    Spa Cover Lifts

Now that you've purchased a new spa and had it installed on your patio, deck, or in the backyard, you want to protect your investment from the elements. Whether or not you live in an extreme environment like the desert of the Upper Midwest, there are always natural elements you want to keep out of your spa. A good (and included) cover will keep rain water out, making it easier to control the temperature, and also keep out dirt, dust, and debris that can clog your filters and potentially damage the pump.

However, do you want to lift the cover off on your own every time? Spa cover lifts are an affordable solution that make it easy to place and remove the cover on your spa. Some are motorized, while others use leverage to make it easy for you to lift and remove the cover manually.

    Hybrid Tables and Stools

If your spa is the centerpiece of a greater outdoor patio area, you'll want some high-quality pub tables and stools to provide the finishing touches to your environment. Hybrid tables are available in long, rectangular forms, pub-table designs, and half-circle tables. Constructed using Envirotech materials, these tables will not crack, fade, or deteriorate, which makes them a perfect addition to your outdoor entertaining area. Stools made with Envirotech materials are also available to match each table mentioned.

    Spa-Mount Tables

There's nothing better than enjoying a nice cold beverage while you're relaxing in your spa. Whether you want to stay hydrated with cold water, sip a cold beer, or entertain friends with margaritas, spa-mount tables are available to help everyone enjoy a drink with ease. As the name suggests, these tables can be mounted to the side of your spa to create storage space where you and your guests can set drinks without worrying about holding them, or spilling them, in the spa.

    Spa Steps

How do you plan to get in and out of your spa? There are a myriad of spa steps available to make it easier for you and your guests to get in and out of your spa. Rather than using cheap ladders or boxes from around the house as a makeshift step, you can purchase attractive, sturdy spa steps to make getting in and out a breeze.

Select from a single step constructed out of Envirotech materials, a two-step model made of Redwood for a classic look, or even a half-moon design two-tier step for a unique look. There are plenty of options. Your creativity is the only limit when it comes to adding to your spa with unique steps.

With these four accessories, your spa can be more than just a hot tub in your backyard. These accessories add to the value of your hot tub and help create an enjoyable environment that is perfect for entertaining.

  • 5 Health Benefits of Using a Home Spa

    Spas

You may think that installing a spa in your home is all about self-indulgence; a long soak in a steaming hot spa is one of the great pleasures in life. Even so, there is much more to a home spa than just soaking in the fun and indulging in the bubbles. Having a spa in your home and using it regularly can actually be good for your health!

You may not be able to convince your doctor to write you a prescription for a home spa (let us know if you do!), but if you have been on the fence about getting one, these potential health benefits may give you the excuse you need.

    1. A Home Spa Can Provide Natural Pain Relief

If you suffer from neck and back pain, you could take pain medications to get the relief you need. The problem with that approach is that even over-the-counter medications can have serious side effects, and regular use can make them less effective.

When you invest in a home spa, you can enjoy natural pain relief any time you want. Just sink down into the relaxing warm water and let the jets do their magic. You will feel better, and your pain will soon be forgotten.

    2. A Home Spa Will Make Working Out More Comfortable

A regular workout routine is a great way to get in shape and lose weight, but the pain that comes from sore muscles can be enough to deter even the most ardent gym rat. Those sore muscles can force you to skip the gym or even abandon your fitness plan altogether.

A post-workout spa soak is the perfect way to soothe those aching muscles and prevent the cramping that can make exercise uncomfortable. The heat of a spa is perfect for relaxing and stretching your muscles, and that can make subsequent workouts more comfortable.

    3. A Home Spa Can Be Good for Your Heart

Heart disease and stroke are serious problems in the modern world, and it is important to take care of your heart. Lowering your blood pressure is one of the most effective ways to prevent heart disease and stroke, and relaxing in a spa is the perfect way to reduce your blood pressure without prescription medications.

There is nothing like relaxing in your home spa after a long and stressful day at work. Soon you will feel the cares of the day melting away in the warm water, and your heart will thank you for it.

    4. A Home Spa is a Great Way to Relax

Regular relaxation is good for every aspect of your life. Staying relaxed will make it easier to get to sleep at night and wake refreshed, so why not enjoy a late-night soak in your home spa?

Soaking in your spa is also good for your mood, reducing stress and helping you deal with a difficult day. Whether you enjoy your spa in the morning after your shower or after work, you will feel great and entirely relaxed.

    5. A Home Spa is Good for Your Skin

If you need another reason so invest in a home spa, just take a look in the mirror. Regular spa use can make your skin look better and more toned, and the relaxation is good for your complexion as well.

Instead of spending thousands of dollars on makeup and skin care products, just enjoy a relaxing soak in your home spa. Your skin will feel better - and so will you!

  • 5 Things to Look for in an Outdoor Spa

    hot-tubs-arkansas-3

Installing a spa in your home or on your patio is a great way to indulge your senses, relax your mind and even improve your health. An outdoor spa is a big investment, but it is well worth the cost, especially if you know what to look for. Here are five things you need to look for when you go spa shopping.

    #1. Quality Materials
When you buy a spa, you are making an investment in something that will provide years of relaxation and fun. When you shop for an outdoor spa, you will need to look carefully at the materials and make sure they are of the highest quality.

Outdoor spas in particular need to be able to stand up to the elements. From the harshest sun to the coldest ice, your spa will need to withstand everything nature can throw at it.

    #2. Installation Surface
When the time comes to install your new spa, you must keep in mind that you will need a firm level surface for the hot tub. Many believe this means that you will have to mix and then pour a concrete base, but this is not always the case!

There are a few alternatives to pouring concrete in the location of the hot tub. For instance, well-laid pavers could get the job done. You’ll want to make sure that the surface is even before they are installed to avoid shifting when the hot tub is installed. Another alternative is this portable plastic pad system. This system has been around for years, and is a quick and reliable alternative to concrete, or even pavers!

    #3. Great Customer Service
Great customer service is always important, but it is even more essential when making a major purchase like an outdoor spa. You will want to work with a company that has a stellar reputation for quality customer service and a commitment to quality. Spas and Stuff has been a BBB accredited business since 2007 and has an A+ rating!

A company that provides top notch service and shows a willingness to answer your questions is likely to be there for you if something goes wrong. The right service can make a huge difference when buying and using your outdoor spa, and you do not want to skimp in this vital area.

    #4. Energy Efficiency
You will need energy to power your outdoor spa, but that does not mean it has to break the bank. Some spas are more energy-efficient than others, and choosing an efficient unit will keep your power bill under control while you enjoy your daily soak.

Choosing an energy-efficient outdoor spa will also mean you can use it more often. You will be able to relax and enjoy your spa without worrying that it is costing you too much money.

    #5. Creature Comforts
While the spa itself is the most important part of the picture, a few creature comforts can make the experience that much better. If you want to enjoy a glass of wine while soaking in your spa and watching the stars, a built-in tray table or bottle holder will be well worth your while. A quality step will make getting into and out of your spa a lot easier, while a stereo hookup and lights will delight your eyes and ears while you relax.

Modern spas come loaded with creature comforts, so you should not have much trouble finding the right combination of extras. Before you know it, you will be relaxing in your outdoor spa and soothing away the cares of the day!

  • Tips for Buying Spas: Which One is Right for Your Home?

    spas

If you've considered purchasing that spa for sale, you've undoubtedly dealt with a number of questions crossing your mind. Among the most common are "where am I going to put this?" and "which spa for sale is right for me?" Selecting a new hot tub for your home can be challenging, especially if you've never had one before. Fortunately, the process doesn't have to be a pain in the back. With a few helpful tips, you'll be able to effectively compare the spas for sale and select the one that best suits your needs and your space.

    Consider Your Budget

Purchasing a spa for sale can be very exciting, but it’s also a great investment, which means it is important that you find one that best fits your budget and long-term needs. The best place to start is comparing available hot tub models within your budget. There are premium spas, Columbia spas, hot tubs with loungers, hot tubs without loungers, and all of these options offer different price points, sizes and options.

It's a good idea to consider alternative models as well, such as inflatable spas that are more affordable, easier to maintain and are portable. All of these options can be found on our site, take your time browsing through to find the one that’s right for you.

    Choose the Right Size

This is one decision that no one else can make for you. As you compare various spas for sale, think about how many people will use it on a regular basis. If you are retirees with grandchildren that only occasionally visit, a spa with space for two is probably the best option. However, a family of five will encounter constant battles of spa time if a smaller hot tub is purchased.

What Type is Right for You?

Spas, generally speaking, can be broken down into two types: above-ground, portable or in-ground models. When you purchase an above-ground model, most are self-contained units that have all the pumps and hookups needed to be up and running in no time. In-ground models require installation work and a significant initial investment, but offer customization of parts to fit your specific needs.

    Comfort

There are many different features and seating arrangements to choose from when looking at spas for sale. Finding one that best fits you and your family’s needs is important for you to be happy with your purchase for a long time. From two-seaters, to four-seaters, loungers to non-loungers all the options can be a bit overwhelming, but by taking the time to think about what you’ll most often be using the hot tub or spa for will help you make this decision.

    Efficiency

Natural gas prices might be falling, but that doesn't mean home utility bills will follow suit. Choosing an efficient model will help save energy and money in the long run. For example, the right pump for your tub size will not only save electricity by circulating water more effectively, it is less likely to wear out and break down as a result of being overworked. In this instance, you not only save money on electric bills, but also on maintenance.

Following these tips for buying spas will help you make the right decision the first time. After all, there is no point in purchasing a spa that will add to your stress levels and further drain your wallet over time.

If you are interested in purchasing a spa for sale, or have any questions about which model is right for you, give us a call, we’re happy to help!

  • Buying Spas: How a Hot Tub Can Aid in Stress Reduction

    iStock_000025752257Small

Modern life is full of stressors and energy drains. Your everyday life is busy enough with work, family responsibilities, maintaining an active lifestyle, and investing in your personal relationships. Add to that the stress of traffic, chores around the home, and other responsibilities, and your life can feel crazy at times. If you've been considering the improvement of your home by purchasing a new spa, you'll be glad to know that spas can help you reduce your stress levels and get more joy out of life.

Basic Benefits of a Hot Tub

When you see a spa for sale, think of all the benefits you could enjoy by installing one in your home. If stress levels are reducing your overall quality of life, a hot tub can help counteract those negative forces using a hydrotherapeutic, stress-relieving environment. The keys to successful stress reduction in your new spa are heat, buoyancy, and massage. Here's how each works:

    • The hot water in a spa helps dilate your blood vessels, increasing blood flow to sore and damaged tissues. For those who spend the day in an uncomfortable office chair or on their feet, this helps undo the damage of the average workday.
    • Buoyancy of the water helps reduce your body weight in that environment by as much as 90%, relieving pressure that builds up on your joints and muscles.
    • Massaging jets in the latest spas for sale provide an active force to relax muscles, while also relieving pressure on your nerves.

    Spas and Sleep Cycles

A key weapon in the battle against stress is a good night's sleep. In our constant-connection world where smart phones and tablets are always within arm's reach, restful sleep can be elusive for many. When you don't get enough sleep, stress levels not only fail to subside, they can actually increase as you fail to recover from one stressful event before suffering through another stressful day.

The Sleep Journal found that raising your core body temperature for 15 minutes in warm water, 90 minutes before bed time, helps relax the body and induce more restful sleep. Purchasing a new spa is an excellent option for reducing the physical impact of stress, while also aiding in the body's natural recovery processes.

    Impacts of Stress

Before you decide against that spa for sale, think about the negative impacts that stress has been proven to have on your life. Stressful lifestyles, according to the US Centers for Disease Control, contribute to nearly half the early deaths of those under 65 years of age.

Additionally, the National Stress Management Association has found that stress can enhance the negative impact of other physical conditions in your body, such as gastrointestinal problems, cardiovascular disorders, tension pain, headaches, and arthritis.

Investing in a new spa is a great way to combat the physical and mental rigors of stress. Less than two hours a week in a spa can help you reduce stress, prevent it from impacting other physical conditions, and improve your body's ability to recover through restful sleep.
